College of Medicine Awards - Student
Each spring, the College of Medicine solicits nominations for awards for graduating students. If you would like to nominate someone for an award, please select your current College of Medicine employment/enrollment status from the drop-down menu below and then click on 'GO.' All of the Graduation Awards for which you are eligible to nominate will then appear. Next, click on the links to get more information about each award and the nomination process.

This award recognizes a graduating student that has made outstanding efforts to foster interprofessional education activities and/or team-based clinical activities. In memory of compassionate nurse Linda Costa Stine.

If you learn that a specific student has been nominated by another person, you should still submit your nomination letter that addresses the reasons why you think that student should be recognized, giving examples of exemplary actions. It is expected that some nominators will only be aware of activities that occurred in Years 1-2 while others are aware of what occurred in Years 3-4. The award is meant to represent consistent activity which may only be apparent when the committee sees several letters each describing different aspects of the nominees’ contributions.

- ALTRUISM IN MEDICINE AWARD

- Criteria
This award is conferred upon a graduating student who, through consistent actions, displays exemplary and unselfish concern for furthering the health, well-being, and fulfillment of his or her fellow human beings and in so doing embodies the highest ideals of medicine as a service calling. Nominees should exemplify the ideals outlined above. Any student who has made outstanding contributions to the betterment of human kind through selfless acts of kindness and charity, or who has gone out of his/her way to improve the health and well being of others through volunteer activities (e.g., homeless shelters, free clinics, Habitat for Humanity, tutoring and literacy programs, fundraising for charitable organizations, etc.) should be considered. Contributions may include organizational activities or “hands-on” work for those who need it most

- ACCESS TO CARE AWARD, IN HONOR OF ROBIN MCDOUGALL

- Criteria
This award is intended for a graduating 4th-year medical student, who has: 1. Demonstrated throughout medical school a strong interest in the issue of increasing access to healthcare for underserved populations, striving to better understand how physicians in particular can increase access. 2. Has volunteered or completed placements at facilities whose mission is to increase access to healthcare, such as volunteering at Neighborhood Heath Services, Bond Community Health Center, the Mobile Heath Unit through the Florida Department of Health, etc. And/or, has volunteered to serve on international mission trips to Panama, Mexico, or other FSU-COM approved locations. 3. Has created projects or fundraising events with the goal of increasing access to healthcare. 4. Has attended or has volunteered to serve on boards or committees that address access to care, such as the CMS Foundation’s Access to Care Committee, the Leon County Primary Care Implementation Advisory Board, etc.

The College of Medicine Student Research Award will be awarded each year to the graduating medical student who has demonstrated sustained interest in research and has a record of experience and achievement in research.
