Job Description
Dr. Baker is responsible for enhancing the teaching skills of faculty, including faculty on the FSU campus, community physicians who precept students in the first and second year, and clinical faculty at the six regional medical school campuses who participate in teaching the required clerkships and electives.
Biosketch
Dr. Baker earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Florida. He has more than 30 years of medical education experience in the areas of faculty and curriculum development. Prior to coming to the FSU College of Medicine in May 2002, Dr. Baker was the Director of the Office of Faculty Development at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His present focus at FSU is to conduct and oversee a comprehensive faculty-development program for the central campus and six regional campuses. His faculty-development activities include individual consultations, creation of learning modules, development and maintenance of a nationally recognized faculty-development web page and presentation of workshops.

Dr. Baker has received numerous awards over the years, including the Golden Apple Award, presented by the Center for Teaching Excellence at Ohio University.

Dr. Baker is active in several national organizations, including the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, Generalists in Medical Education, and the Southern Group on Educational Affairs, which is an educational group within AAMC.

Research Focus
Dr. Baker has professional interests in: Application of Personality Type to Medical Education, Classroom/Clinical Teaching Skills Development, Small Group Learning, Distance Education Teaching Skills, and Alternatives to Memory-Based Evaluation Methodologies. His primary research area is the evaluation of the effectiveness of faculty-development programming.
