Job Description
Dr. Harrison serves as the Director of Clinical Programs, coordinating the curriculum during the M3 and M4 clerkship years. She also teaches in the pre-clerkship curriculum, as an instructor in the Clinical Learning Center, and as a small group facilitator for both first and second-year medical students. Dr. Harrison leads large group lectures for medical students and physician assistant students. She teaches several electives, including Literature and Medicine elective, Public Health Epidemiology, and Trauma & Abuse, and frequently works with interested students through Special Topics and Research electives in the fourth year of medical school. In addition to medical education, Dr. Harrison frequently participates in undergraduate courses at the College of Medicine through lecture/discussion sessions in the Honors Medical Seminar and Careers in Medicine. Dr. Harrison provides continuing medical education for physicians and other healthcare professionals on topics such as domestic violence, human trafficking, and trauma-informed care.
Biosketch
Prior to joining the FSU College of Medicine in April 2005, Dr. Harrison was a faculty member at the Tallahassee Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program, where she participated in the medical training of resident physicians and medical students from FSU College of Medicine and other institutions.
Dr. Harrison graduated from the University of Washington School Of Medicine in Seattle and completed her Family Medicine Residency at Valley Medical Center, part of the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network. Following her training, Dr. Harrison spent a decade in Walla Walla, Washington practicing the full spectrum of family medicine including obstetrics. During that time she served as Department Chair of Pediatrics & Obstetrics at St. Mary Medical Center. Dr. Harrison was involved in clinical teaching while in private practice through the University of Washington MEDEX program and Whitworth College.
During her tenure in Tallahassee, Dr. Harrison has provided medical care for patients at the TMH Family Medicine Residency Program, Neighborhood Health Center, University Health Services, Leon County Health Department, Jefferson County Health Department, Wakulla County Health Department, and Taylor County Health Department. She also founded a free clinic and provided care for victims of violence and abuse at Refuge House from 2003-2013. Dr. Harrison has also provided medical care to clients through the Center for the Advancement of Human Rights.

Service
Dr. Harrison is active in several service-related activities at the College of Medicine, and also volunteers her time locally, nationally, and internationally. At the local level, she serves on the Access to Care Committee, the Big Bend Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team, and the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council. At the national level, Dr. Harrison is a past president of the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) and has served as co-chair for the anti-trafficking committee, Physicians Against the Trafficking of Humans; she also serves on the National Health Collaborative on Violence and Abuse as an organizational representative for AMWA, as part of the planning committee for the Academy on Violence and Abuse Global Health Summit. Through FSU College of Medicine, Dr. Harrison serves on both the admissions committee and the curriculum committee. She is an academic advisor for medical students and serves as the faculty advisor for the medical student branch of AMWA and for the Chapman Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Harrison is the clinician editor for HEAL, a student publication at FSU College of Medicine. She also reviews articles for several medical journals, serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Women's Health and Gynecology.
