Michael J Muszynski M.D., FAAP

Dr. Muszynski is responsible for directing the clinical education program for those FSU medical students assigned to the FSU Regional Medical School Campus in Orlando for the third and fourth years of medical school. He is also responsible for the administration and development of research in clinical settings, including the statewide Network for Clinical Research and Training, and its collaborative affiliations.

Dr Muszynski has been an academic pediatric infectious diseases specialist since 1983. His original research involved cystic fibrosis lung infection, and he was co-developer of a culture medium used worldwide by clinical microbiology laboratories for processing sputum specimens. His later research explored immune modulating effects of antibiotics on lung inflammation. He became division chief of pediatric infectious diseases at Orlando Regional Healthcare in 1986 and the Nemours Children’s Clinic in 1997. He also founded the nationally recognized HUG Me Program for pediatric HIV/AIDS care and research in Central Florida. Dr. Muszynski has 29 years of clinical teaching experience, including 12 years as director of the Pediatric Residency Training Program at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women in Orlando. He was academic chairman of the department of pediatrics of Orlando Regional Healthcare from 1995 to 2004. He helped develop the residency program into one of the best community-based residency programs in the country. Just before joining FSU College of Medicine, Dr Muszynski was appointed co-chairman of the education and research committee of the Association of Florida Children’s Hospitals and the evaluation methods task force chairman of the national Association of Pediatric Program Directors.
