Job Description
Baker joined the College of Medicine in 2006 in the Department of Geriatrics. In May 2017 she became the assistant dean for graduate programs and medical student research. In this role she has administrative responsibility for the Department of Biomedical Sciences’ Ph.D. program and the medical student research programs. She works closely with the Division of Research and Graduate Programs and the BMS graduate program committee to help ensure the college provides an exemplary education in the biomedical sciences to aspiring scientists. She has oversight of research activities and related funding for medical students in the College of Medicine, including oversight of the summer research fellowship program. As assistant dean she is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the research infrastructure, which will enhance research skills and increase growth opportunities for students and clinical faculty members.
Before her current role, Baker served as the research program director for the Department of Geriatrics. She was responsible for overseeing the research projects of all department faculty, including projects involving students. That included participating in the development of research and grant proposals, developing research designs, monitoring research projects, writing and submitting Institutional Review Board applications, producing reports on research activities for department, college and university purposes, mentoring students and providing statistical support.
