Biosketch
Dr. Roger Mercer is currently the Director of the Translational Science Laboratory at the Florida State University College of Medicine.
He received his undergraduate training in chemistry at the University of Guelph. His M.Sc. and Ph.D. in gas phase ion chemistry were obtained in the laboratory of Alex Harrison at the University of Toronto.
Before leaving Canada he worked for MDS SCIEX conducting surveys of ambient air quality using the TAGA technology on behalf of the Air Resources Branch of the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. He was subsequently the senior scientist and supervisor of the Dioxin Furan Unit of the Ministry’s Laboratory Services Branch.
After emigrating to the US, Dr. Mercer held a research faculty position in the Protein Structure Laboratory at the University of California, Davis, and was then a group leader and senior research scientist conducting protein structure and proteomics analyses at Exelixis, a biotechnology company in South San Francisco.
Dr. Mercer’s research interests include quantitative analysis of small molecules; identification and structural analysis of proteins and peptides; and quantitation of proteins with a particular emphasis on label-free methods.
