Nancy L Hayes Ph.D.

Associate Professor, Director of Clinical Foundations

Main Campus

As Director of Clinical Foundations (Years 1 & 2), Dr. Hayes works with the Director of Clinical Programs (Years 3 & 4) to evaluate courses, clerkships and the four-year educational continuum through an effective peer review process. That process is designed to identify opportunities for continual improvement and to ensure that the curriculum is integrated, developmental, and competency-based. An important goal is to promote collaborative and innovative efforts for development of learning activities and methods of assessment that support a curriculum that meets the needs of future medical students. She also teaches in the Clinical Neuroscience and Doctoring 1 courses and mentors medical students.

Dr. Hayes has more than 30 years' experience in academic medicine and biomedical research. She came to the Florida State College of Medicine from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where she was course director for Neuroscience and a member of the teaching staff for Gross and Developmental Anatomy. Her teaching experience also includes Integrated Cases, Medical Histology, and Advanced Studies seminar courses for the graduate program in Neuroscience. At RWJMS Dr. Hayes was a leader in curriculum innovation and integration, including the development of adult learning activities, incorporation of web-based activities and materials, and promotion of self-assessment and self-improvement skills in students.
