
Cheryl Porter Ph.D.
Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Associate Professor
Biosketch
Dr. Porter was born in Virginia to a military family but was raised in central Florida. After a ten-year career in the banking industry, Dr. Porter became the first person in her family to go to college and earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Florida. Following completion of the bachelor's degree, Dr. Porter moved to Tallahassee to pursue a Ph.D. in a Combined Counseling Psychology and School Psychology program at Florida State University. During her time at FSU, Dr. Porter gained experience in counseling psychology, school psychology, and career counseling. Her pre-doctoral internship was completed at LSU's Health Sciences Center in a post-Katrina New Orleans, Louisiana. In 2009, Dr. Porter returned to the panhandle of Florida where she consulted with schools in providing response to intervention services to K-12 schools. In 2010, Dr. Porter was recruited to join the Office of Student Counseling Services. From 2020 to 2023, Dr. Porter served as the Assistant Dean of Student Counseling Services at the College of Medicine. In 2023, she was promoted to Assistant Dean of Student Affairs & Diversity where she continues one of her primary career goals of making school a safe place for students.
