Job Description
Dr. Suchak is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geriatrics at the College of Medicine. She serves as a Medicine 1 Course Co-Director and as a Clinical Skills Director for Year 1.
Biosketch
Dr. Suchak is a clinician-educator and is board certified through the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She has extensive clinical experience in a variety of settings including office, hospital, nursing home, rehabilitation facility, hospice, assisted living, and house calls. She has organized geriatrics consultation programs with sub-specialties such as oncology, surgery, orthopedics, and gynecology. Dr. Suchak has wide-ranging leadership experience in a multitude of healthcare environments including university, VA, private teaching hospital, and geriatrics house calls program.
Dr. Suchak's teaching responsibilities prior to her coming to the Florida State University College of Medicine in 2011 focused on the training of medical residents and geriatric medicine fellows. She has previously served as the Director of the geriatrics rotation for medical residents and Associate Program Director of a geriatric medicine fellowship program. Dr. Suchak's current teaching responsibilities include teaching medical students through all 4 years of medical school and being faculty preceptor for the geriatrics rotation for medical residents. Dr. Suchak contributes to curriculum development in her role as a Medicine 1 Course Co-Director and as a Clinical Skills Director for Year 1. Interprofessional education is another focus area for her. Dr. Suchak is the lead faculty for the development and implementation of the MUST-SIT together© Interprofessional Education Model (Modified Use of Simulation in Teams for Students In Training together) that incorporates a simulated patient encounter with students from multiple health professions.
