Job Description
Dr. Yang is a bioinformatics scientist at the College of Medicine, Florida State University. He is a key member of the genomics service team at the Translational Science Lab. His expertise includes NextGen sequencing and the administration of diverse computing systems, including the installation, configuration, and maintenance of High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems and the DT-HSS3. Dr. Yang is also involved in managing the Next-Generation Sequencing facility, developing bioinformatics software, and performing genomics data analysis.
Biosketch
Dr. Yang is currently a Senior Research Associate at the Translational Sciences Laboratory, Florida State University College of Medicine. He received his undergraduate training in biology at Shandong Agricultural University, China, and an MS degree from the Shanghai Institute of Plant Physiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Following his graduate studies, he worked as a research scientist in plant physiology at the Henan Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Dr. Yang earned his PhD in molecular biology from the University of Arkansas, then worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Florida, where he focused on characterizing virus pathogenesis and generating transgenic resistance to viral diseases in plants. Concurrently, he obtained an MS in computer engineering from the University of Florida, with an emphasis on bioinformatics studies. After several years working as a system programmer, IT consultant, and bioinformatics system administrator and analyst, Dr. Yang joined the faculty at the College of Medicine, Florida State University in 2011.
