OPENING SOON... THE BRAND NEW COLLEGE OF MEDICINE FACILITY! Faculty, staff and students are scheduled to move into the new College of Medicine building complex in mid-October. Final construction, including the remaining portion of the research building and the auditorium, is set to be complete in early 2006.

BUILDING DEDICATION DATE SET FOR MARCH 18 Please mark your calendars for 12 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2005, for the College of Medicine building dedication ceremony. The ceremony will be held the day following Match Day, which is when graduating medical students around the country find out where they will complete their residency training. Invitations to the dedication ceremony will be sent out as the event gets nearer.

CLASS OF 2008 INDUCTED INTO MEDICAL PROFESSION Nick Anthony was among 58 students in the Class of 2008 who were welcomed into the medical profession during their White Coat Ceremony Aug. 13.  The Class of 2008 is the fourth class to enter FSU's College of Medicine.

GERIATRICS CHAIR FEATURED IN L.A. TIMES MAGAZINE Ken Brummel-Smith, M.D., chair of the department of geriatrics, was featured in the Aug. 22 cover story in the Los Angeles Times Magazine.  Author Lauren Kessler casts a new light on Alzheimer's with help from Brummel-Smith, a leading expert on the disease.

SARASOTA DEAN FEATURED IN MODERN PHYSICIAN MAGAZINE Bruce Berg, M.D., dean of the medical school's new Sarasota campus, was featured in Modern Physician online Sept. 22. Modern Physician, a business news magazine for physicians and executives, noted Berg’s experience implementing computerized physician order entry at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he has served as chief medical information officer and patient safety officer. “The IT work will enable him to walk the walk as well as talk the talk with FSU’s tech-savvy medical students,” said author Joseph Conn. COLLEGE OF MEDICINE RESEARCHER RECEIVES JAMES AND ESTHER KING GRANT

Yanchang Wang, Ph.D., of the FSU College of Medicine has received a three-year, $441,000, grant for his cancer research through the James and Esther King Biomedical Research Program, which is funded by the Florida Legislature.  (more)
