PRESCRIPTION FOR POLICY CHANGE
The July 2007 issue of Florida Medical Association Magazine includes a
feature article by Dr. Kyle Moyles (Class
of 2007), who
recently began a residency in orthopedic surgery at Jackson Memorial
Hospital in Miami. Moyles, formerly a medical student representative with
the FMA Board of Governors, writes about his interest in helping to shape
public policy regarding such issues as Medicaid reform. The article can be
seen in Florida Medical Magazine

INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN
Dr. Nick Seeliger (Class of 2006) recently completed a month-long course
– International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance (IDHA) – in New York
City. The course is operated by the Center for International Health and
Cooperation.
Seeliger, a captain and family medicine resident with the United States Air
Force, has had an interest in global health since his days at the College of
Medicine. IDHA is the only internationally recognized course providing
training to humanitarian aid workers.
Seeliger was given permission to attend by his hospital commander at Eglin
AFB. In addition, the Air Force provided 75 percent of the costs associated
with completing the course because Seeliger previously had declared global
health and humanitarian medicine as an area of concentration in his
residency training.
