Rosemarie Garcia and Margaret Davis Hovda won the J. Ocie
Harris, M.D., Outstanding Student Award. The award is given to the
graduating student showing the best all-around promise of becoming a
physician of the highest caliber; who best demonstrates the strengths of
academic achievement, social consciousness, ethical and moral standards and
dedication to patients, and who has been a contributing member of their
class at the College of Medicine.
Other awards presented at the ceremony include: Myra M.
Hurt Leadership in Medicine Award, Shazia Aman; Student Research
Award, Joseph Rousso and Timothy Kubal; Altruism in Medicine
Award, Erin Connelly and Sady Armada; Access to Care Award,
Mason Shamis and Courtney Nall and Individual Achievement Award,
Kimberly Mason and Stephen Patrick.
Regional Campus Dean’s Awards were given to Kristen
Shepherd (Sarasota), Erica Stich (Pensacola), Sady Armada
(Orlando) and Tristan Altbuch and Pragnesh Parikh
(Tallahassee).
John Beach Jr., won the Excellence in Emergency
Medicine Award, while other specialty awards included: Outstanding Graduate
in Family Medicine, Courtney Nall; American Medical Women’s
Association Academic Achievement Award, Margaret Davis Hovda; Merritt
Ryals Clements, M.D., Award (Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynecology) to
Brandy Willis, Kristen Shepherd and Hope Mitchell; Florida
Geriatrics Society Award for Outstanding Student in Geriatrics, Pragnesh
Parikh.
Faculty Council awards were presented to Sarah
Sherraden (Exemplary Faculty Service), Elena Reyes (Advancing the
College Mission), Karen Myers (Outstanding Junior Faculty Educator),
Dr. Paul McLeod (Outstanding Senior Faculty Educator), Mary Gerend
(Outstanding Junior Faculty Researcher), Michael Blaber (Outstanding
Senior Faculty Researcher) and Rebecca Shiveler (Exemplary Staff
Service).
