Dr. Smith-Barron will work with Dr. Daniel Van Durme, chair of
the department of family medicine and rural health, as the Immokalee Health
Education Site provides opportunities for required third-year rotations in
family medicine and pediatrics, in addition to elective rotations for
fourth-year students. She will help in the development of additional
rotation opportunities in internal medicine and obstetrics-gynecology. Read

FACULTY RECOGNITION
Some of the top physicians in Florida are part of the College of Medicine’s
clerkship faculty, who teach students during the third and fourth years of
medical school. Two recently received state-wide honors.
Dr. Arthur Clements, clerkship director for obstetrics and gynecology
for the Tallahassee regional campus, has been elected President Elect of the
Florida Obstetric and Gynecologic Society.
Dr. Bruce Robinson, geriatrics clerkship director for the Sarasota
campus, has been appointed to the Governor’s Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative
committee and to the American Medical Directors Association Certifying
Program Board.
At the main campus, Dr. Alice Pomidor received the American
Geriatrics Society 2008 Outstanding Committee Service Award for service on
the Public Education Committee at the AGS annual meeting in May. The award
is for AGS committee members making an extraordinary contribution to the
society through service on AGS Committees.
Dr. Pomidor, associate professor in the department of geriatrics at the
College of Medicine, has received the honor for a second consecutive year.
