ALUMNI NEWS

GUESTS AND HOSTS

Here’s an update from Amber Smalley, alumni relations coordinator (850-645-2823), about the new HOST  program:

So far we have 36 alumni volunteers in 28 cities and 18 states who have volunteered to host our medical students as they travel for residency interviews. Those volunteers make up four out of five of our alumni classes and eight out of 30 PIMS classes. We’re working on getting participation from those other classes too.

Recently a mailing that mentioned the HOST program was sent to 1,100 of our PIMS and College of Medicine alumni. So far about 100 PIMS addresses have been returned as undeliverable, so we’ve been going through online public records databases to find each correct home address. We’ve found about 35 PIMS alumni so far, and have remailed those outreach pieces. We also sent our new data to the FSU Foundation so they can update their database. We’re hoping our diligence will increase that 36 number to somewhere near 60.

The most important update is that we’ve matched five out of our eight student HOST requests across the country, saving those students money and allowing both them and us to connect with our alumni. We’re working on finding volunteers in those three other cities and hoping more fourth-year students will participate in the program too. Let us know if you have any questions, and thank you all for your input and suggestions thus far.
