Alumni News

Matt and Stephanie Lee (both M.D., ’06) have returned to Tallahassee. Matt, who completed a spine fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, has joined Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic. Stephanie has joined Drs. Michael Douso and Kathrine Lupo at Capital Regional Women’s Health.

Erkan Alci (M.D., ’08) will begin a spine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh on Aug. 1.

David Castillo (M.D., ’12) is best-known as a veteran FSU football player, but a handful of young people in Tallahassee know him as a great listener who cared about their problems. In case you missed it, he was featured in the fall issue of FSU MED magazine.

Desmond Fitzpatrick (M.D., ’11), an emergency medicine resident at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Shands Hospital, was selected to be on the GME resident education committee.

Fawn Harrison (M.D., ’05, pictured here) is savoring life as a pediatrician in the small Southwest Florida town of Arcadia. Her story, too, was in FSU MED. (Also in the latest FSU MED was a long list of updates on Program in Medical Sciences and College of Medicine alumni, starting here and continuing to the back cover.)

Alex Ho (M.D., ’05) received the Mission Model Award from the Tallahassee Regional Campus. It’s believed to be the first time a College of Medicine alum has received a faculty award.

Ashley Lucke (M.D., ’11) will be chief resident in 2014-2015 at the University of Texas Southwestern Pediatrics Residency Program. (Read her account of how a pediatrician can spot the signs of domestic violence.)

Karen Miles (M.D., ’05) has become medical director of a new behavioral health center in Garner, N.C.

Jordan Rogers (M.D.,’12) was selected in June as a Seminole Torchbearer, which recognizes distinguished student leaders for their involvement on campus. She’s now an emergency medicine resident at the University of Florida-Shands.

MEDICAL EDUCATION FOR FLORIDA’S FUTURE
We deeply appreciate the generosity of the College of Medicine’s many friends. Without their financial support, many of the high-quality programs essential to our students’ learning experience would be lost to budget adjustments necessary in today’s financial environment. We extend our profound thanks to the many donors who’ve responded to help support this medical school since it was created in 2000. If you would like to discuss making a gift in support of the College of Medicine’s vital role preparing new physicians to meet the challenges of Florida’s health-care needs, please contact Wayne Munson, assistant dean for development, 850-644-4389.
