Dean's Message

“Our students impress me daily

I’m incorporating my periodic Dean’s Messages into the quarterly e-newsletter to communicate more regularly with our community, so please provide feedback on topics you’d like me to address.

It’s that time of year again when we cycle through the calendar, graduate a class, send a class to their regional campuses, then turn around and welcome the newest class to the College of Medicine. I hope you can join us at our Graduation Ceremony on May 18 in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall. It’s the highlight of the year, with enthusiastic graduates, families and other loved ones cheering loudly at this momentous event in their lives. The Class of 2013 is one to be proud of, with wonderful students and a great match at superb programs. Our graduates continue to raise the bar and add to the College of Medicine’s positive reputation.

I also wish the Class of 2015 students well in their new adventures at the regional campuses and thank them for their leadership and dedication to excellence as our “senior class” here in Tallahassee this year. All of our students continue to impress me daily with their energy, compassion and commitment to serving others.

I hope all of you know that we have a very active Faculty Council. Representatives from each department  look at ways to improve communication and foster a positive culture here at the College of Medicine. They have developed a series of faculty socials in The Doctor’s Inn to facilitate interaction and communication. The members of the Faculty Council Executive Committee maintain a list of resources available to faculty members throughout the college and university. They encourage faculty members to contact them with comments and suggestions and will continue to update this helpful resource list as needed. If there’s a resource you think should be listed, let them know. Current membership of the council’s Executive Committee can also be found on that page.

Here in the EMR newsletter, you will find items about our students, alumni, faculty and staff. I think you’ll agree with me that this is a busy and productive place with wonderful stories and great accomplishments. Thanks for all you do to contribute to these stories and enhance this very special College of Medicine.

Best wishes in the new academic year.
